HISTORY OF THE LEWIS COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
· The public library actually began
with a bookmobile in 1954, operated by Ms. Helen H. Rayburn. The library
rented several buildings before purchasing the building the library
currently uses. The library has been located in the same building since
1962.
· Plans are now underway to secure
funding for a new library building, which will be located next to the
Vanceburg Post Office on 3rd
Street.
· The library has over 30,000 books in
it's collection.
· We boast a large Kentucky section which includes The
History of Lewis County by O.G. Ragan, The Garrison History: Past
& Present by Esta Christy, and many more books by these beloved
authors: Jesse Stuart, Janice Holt Giles, Barbara Kingsolver.
· Our Local History section includes
local yearbooks that are available for our patrons to enjoy while at the
library.
· The Library has a wide selection of
fiction, nonfiction, juvenile, juvenile nonfiction, easy readers, large print,
historical romances, and inspirational fiction.
